The City of Fort Worth is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy City Marshal.  The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the physical security of the City of Fort Worth’s Municipal Courts, City Hall, and Lake Worth.  The Deputy City Marshal will also be responsible for operating security screening check points, serving as a court bailiff, serving warrants, affecting arrests, patrolling the waters of Lake Worth, transporting prisoners, and enforcing traffic laws in accordance with state law and department policies. 

 Essential Duties:

  • Operates security screening check points; searches and inspects persons and their property entering secure facilities for weapons, explosives, and other contraband.

  • Serves as court bailiff in assigned courts and performs related duties; ensures the safety and security of the courtroom, jury, and trial participants at all times.

  • Responds to emergencies and incidents in the Municipal Courts, City Hall Complex, and in/around Lake Worth.

  • Transports prisoners to and from surrounding jurisdictions; ensures proper restraint of prisoners during transportation.

  • Conducts traffic stops and investigations, enforces various traffic laws and water or boating ordinances; issues citations as required.

  • Detains, questions, and investigates persons suspected of violating certain court orders.

  • Serves warrants and arrest persons named there in.

  • Testifies in court when required to do so.

  • Completes and maintains accurate reports, inventories, and documents.

  • Maintains required certifications and proficiencies.


Other Requirements:

  • Able to qualify with issued firearm(s) at least once a year

  • Able to learn applicable laws and ordinances

  • Able to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions

  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors; judiciary and other city employees/appointees/electorates

  • Able to deal courteously but firmly with citizens

  • Able to learn the city's geography

  • Able to maintain regular and punctual attendance


Minimum job requirements include:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • At least two (2) years of experience in a law enforcement related field, or security of governmental buildings/structures, or active duty military police experience

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

  • Possession of a valid Texas Peace Officer’s license


Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following:

  • Basic Texas Peace Officer’s license or higher

  • Completed minimum TCOLE training hours for the training cycle

  • Continued education

  • Experience operating a watercraft.

  • Firearms proficiencies in pistol, shotgun, and rifle, platforms

  • Completed procedural justice training



Work Conditions include:

Environmental Conditions:  Field environment, courtroom environment, travel from site to site; exposure to potentially hostile environments 

Physical Conditions:  Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary to function as a peace officer and sitting, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; the ability to discharge a firearm  


Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Applicants must pass an intensive personal history background investigation. Must pass polygraph, psychological testing and drug screening. Must meet L2 and L3 TCOLE requirements as applicable.  Must be available to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
