JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction, is responsible for efficient data entry of arrested persons and magistration efforts in the City Magistrate/Detention Center while coordinating with Law Enforcement. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.  Exercises no supervision.

Working conditions are primarily in a Detention Center environment.

Work Hours: Primary hours will be nights and weekends, in support of the 24/7 Magistrate Operation. Schedule to include holidays and on-call duty.

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides assistance to the public and law enforcement agencies.
  • Intakes and updates municipal court violations when arrested party arrives in the City Magistrate/Detention Center. 
  • Determines priority magistration for judge and moves process in a timely manner. 
  • Process payment arrangements based on defendant’s financial status, schedules payment arrangements and explains terms and conditions of payment plan.
  • Collects outstanding fines/costs using established credit card and cash handling procedures.
  • Performs administrative duties including but not limited to report writing, activity documentation, statistical reporting, case processing and filing. 
  • Provides clear, concise, and accurate information to the judge, public, law enforcement officials and prosecutors office. 
  • Reviews National Crime Information Center, Texas Crime Information Center, Texas Department of Public Safety (NCIC/TCIC/DPS) databases for criminal history histories, warrant records and driving records. 
  • Provide excellence in customer service.   
  • Interview arrested persons in the detention center. 
  • Answers call center phone calls.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

 Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Two (2) years of experience in administrative/office support.
  • Any applicant selected for this position must have a background check completed with results satisfactory to the City of San Antonio and successfully complete the City of San Antonio's Cash-Handling Certification Training.
  •  Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
  • Valid Texas Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) Certification within one (1) year of employment and re-certified yearly.
  • Must maintain Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System Access (TLETS) eligibility for continued employment in position (TLETS provides access to TCIC and NCIC).
  • Must obtain the Municipal Court Clerk Certification, Level I, within 18 months of date of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Level 1 Municipal Court Clerk Certification.

WORK HOURS:

  • 24/7 Operation.  Shiftwork, Rotating Work Schedules, Weekends & Holidays.
