Title: Part-Time Municipal Court Clerk

Position Summary:
The Part-Time Municipal Court Clerk performs clerical and administrative duties related to the operations of the Municipal Court. This position assists in processing citations, maintaining court records, preparing dockets, coordinating with law enforcement, and providing customer service to the public. The employee works under general supervision and in compliance with applicable state laws, city ordinances, and court procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Receives, records, and processes citations, complaints, and payments for fines and fees.
· Prepares court dockets, summons, subpoenas, and correspondence for the Municipal Judge and Prosecutor.
· Assists in scheduling court appearances and ensuring defendants are properly notified.
· Collects payments and issues receipts; reconciles daily cash drawers and prepares deposits.
· Answers inquiries from the public, defendants, attorneys, and law enforcement regarding court procedures and case status.
· Enters and updates case information in the court management system.
· Prepares reports for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and other state agencies as required.
· Maintains confidentiality of court records and ensures compliance with the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Open Records Act, and judicial ethics standards.
· Assists with preparing and mailing notices for warrants, show-cause hearings, and failure-to-appear violations.
· Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Court Administrator, City Secretary, or Municipal Judge.
Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent.
· One (1) year of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience; prior experience in a court or legal setting preferred.
· Knowledge of or ability to learn Texas municipal court procedures, rules, and terminology.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic office equipment.
· Excellent communication, organizational, and recordkeeping skills.
· Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in interactions with the public and court personnel.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and handle confidential information appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Certification as a Level I Municipal Court Clerk through the Texas Court Clerks Association (TCCA) or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed in an office and courtroom environment.
· Position is part-time, typically 20 hours per week, depending on court schedule and workload.
