The Deputy Court Clerk II coordinates the programs and activities of the Pflugerville Municipal Court juvenile cases, including juvenile crime prevention, counseling, and detention. This independent clerical/technical work requires the performance of a wide variety of legal and complex clerical duties. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides customer service to citizens, defendants, parents of defendants, and other parties by phone, in person, by email and mail, i.e. answers questions, takes payments, sets court dates, enters information in computer, receives required and/or court ordered documents.
  • Prepares cases for court, prepare judgments, orders, warrants, correspondence, subpoenas, summons, and other court documents.
  • Enters and updates case information in the court case management system,
  • Collects public funds at the Municipal Court service window by attending the public, processing funds by receiving cash, checks, money orders, and credit card payments in person, and by mail; processes online payments; issues receipts and credit payments on account for fines and other Court-related business for many transactions requiring knowledge of payment and status codes, regulations, and departmental policy. Accounts for all funds received accurately in compliance with prescribed procedures.
  • Imports / inputs all citations issued by the Police Department, Animal Control, Code Enforcement into Municipal Court case management system, verifies that citations are imported properly, informs defendants of citation being filed.
  • Attends walk-in customers and receives court documents filed by the public, defendants and attorneys. Provides public information and customer service assistance by explaining court procedures and the different options available to defendants in person, by telephone, mail, e-mail or fax. Referring customers to appropriate staff for assistance with sensitive and private matters.
  • Exercises initiative, critical judgment, and extensive discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Prepares legal correspondence and court documents as instructed by the Prosecutor and Judges.
  • Interacts with the Prosecutor, Judges, Attorneys, and other Local/State agencies in processing contested cases and legal documents.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and community service hours, processes necessary documents and updates the case.
  • This position incumbent may act as relief to the Deputy Court Clerk I.
  • Work as a liaison between parent, juvenile, diversion programs and the court.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs including the maintenance and operation of the volunteer services and other programs within the Municipal Court juvenile program.
  • Prepares and presents statistical reports and other necessary correspondence to the Court Administrator.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience: Three (3) years of experience in Municipal Court procedures. Two (2) years of experience in customer service and payment processing. One (1) year of experience in data entry and processing.
Training, Licenses, or Certifications: Certified Court Clerk II, valid Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual: Spanish.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
