Renewing Certification after Probationary Status

Failing to renew certification in an Academic Year (September 1-August 31) by failing to complete the required continuing education hours will result in a one-year probationary status.  A clerk on probation MUST achieve double the number of hours within the next academic year to renew certification.  Failure to do so will result in a loss of certification.

Level 1 or Level 2 Certification:

Probationary Status - must achieve 24 hours within the next academic year. Any hours achieved in the previous academic year will not be credited - and all 24 hours must be completed in the current year. A maximum of 8 hours of online education is still applicable, therefore, 16 must be live or virtual live.  An application for certification showing evidence of hours must be sent to TMCEC prior to the end of that academic year.  Failure to do so will result in a loss of certification and certification cannot be retrieved without beginning the process over, with Level 1, regardless of previous level of certification.

Level 3 Certification:

Probationary Status - must achieve 40 hours within the next academic year. Any hours achieved in the previous academic year will not be credited - and all 40 hours must be completed in the current year. A maximum of  8 hours of online education is still applicable, therefore, 32  must be live or virtual live.  An application for certification showing evidence of hours must be sent to TMCEC prior to the end of that academic year.  Failure to do so will result in a loss of certification. You may reinstate Level 3 certification by completing 40 hours of education. Six of those hours must come from TMCEC’s Legislative Update and all 40 hours of education must be from within the preceding three years.
